We always recommend having identification for your pet in case they go missing. Tags on collars can help in many cases, but there is also a chance that collars can break or slip off. Tattoos are a good means of identification, but they are semi-permanent as they can fade over time, and your pet must be sedated or anesthetized for the procedure. For these reasons, Castledowns Animal Hospital recommends microchipping your pet. Microchips are permanent and recognized world-wide, and increase your pet's chance of making it home by about 20 times! They are even small enough to be implanted while your pet is awake.
